Thank you to everyone who participated in Mapping a Greenlands Future.

We had a very successful Saturday morning, April 28th, 2007 with over 90 participants.  We appreciated the help given by our Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj, and Planner Brett Salmon, regarding questions on policy and planning.  Thanks again to all who gave up a Saturday morning to help us in planning for a sustainable community.

We look forward to seeing you all at our next Community Workshop in the spring of 2008.

If you missed our workshop, see an outline of how our Mapping a Greenlands Future was planned and click on the list of potential questions.   We hope you will watch this website for dates of up coming events.

Things to ponder:

  • Are there historical areas in the towns of Fergus and Elora whose character you want to preserve?
  • Do you know of a natural heritage landscape you feel should be protected or rehabilitated?
  • Tell us where there is a need to create more corridors for the safe travel of wildlife?
  • Help us find new ways of linking our trails, recreational parks and open spaces together?
  • Where do you see higher density housing in your community?
  • Are you aware of any water resources that need protection or rehabilitation?
  • How can we lessen our human impact on the natural habitat?
  • Where would you like to see a large tract of land set aside for a natural green area in Wellington County?
  • Come and help us identify the things that matter so together we can map a greener future.

There will be Four Interest Groups:

Growth Management, Water, Habitat and Natural Heritage, Recreation
A series of potential questions are included...

Set-Up: Each Pod contains one table of each of the four interest groups. Each table within the Pod has up to 10 participants.  This grouping can be repeated to accommodate the number of registered participants.

Working Maps: Agricultural and Aggregates, Land Use, Urban Centre, Surface Water, Groundwater & Watershed, Natural Heritage

Phase 1 MAPPING YOUR VISION

Phase 1 — 9:30 to 11:30.  Each of the 4 groups has a Facilitator who will explain the maps and set the ground rules through a series of questions.  A volunteer will be appointed to draw the lines on the transparent acetate overlaid on the working maps and label each area discussed according to the group decisions.  Another volunteer will act as reporter to record the reasoning, noting the corresponding label for each mapped area.

A master set of the 6 working maps will be posted on large display boards for referral

Phase 2 SHARING YOUR VISION

Phase 2 — 11:30 to 12:45.  The four interest groups within each Pod will seat themselves at their display board to view each other's acetate map.  Each group will display their acetate over its corresponding working map on the display board.  The rationale for the decisions will be explained and clarification given if necessary.  The Pod Coordinators will help the participants note any convergence, divergence or priorities and the Pod Reporter will record these observations.
